Around 20 Australian police have touched down in the Solomon Islands capital Honiara, and 40 ADF personnel will also be deployed today, following two days of violent protests.

On Thursday, hundreds of people defied a three-day lockdown imposed in Honiara, after protestors burnt buildings and damaged other property, as they demanded the country's Prime Minister stand down.
